In the first stage, the silver ions attach themselves to bacteria and pathogen cell membranes and destroy them. To be called hypo-allergenic, a product undergoes sensitivity tests and other comprehensive tests. The test is administered to 50 volunteers in two stages called induction and challenge. The raw material of which the product is made is applied on a sticker to the subject’s back, between the shoulder blades or their arm. The purpose of this 14-day intermission is to allow the immune system to develop an allergy to the tested material. The reaction is evaluated after 1 hour, 24 hours and 48 hours after the sticker is removed. The reaction is evaluated on a 0 to 3 scale, where 0 is a negative reaction and 3 represents an acute erythematic reaction. The test is acceptable if all the reactions are rated 0. If one case of irritation was diagnosed, the test must be repeated on 50 other subjects.
The test will be accepted if irritation was observed in no more than 1% of the subjects. While the dermatological test evaluates skin irritation, the hypo-allergenic test estimates the development of allergy, so the challenge stage is more important for the overall results.
